The Perquimans County Winter Guard team is comprised of 8th-12th grade students, that perform at several AIA (Atlantic Indoor Association) competitions in the winter months. Just like Color Guard, these kids display their skills through flag spinning, rifle work, and dance, as they compete against other teams in our area, in the gyms of hosting schools.

In the 2019-2020 school year, Perquimans County assembled their very first Winter Guard team, as a non-competitive team. Having a few after school practices and learning the ins and outs of Winter Guard, they had the opportunity to attend an AIA Competition to watch other teams perform, and get a better idea of what they would be getting into the following year, as a competitive team. Unfortunately, we all know what happened during the 2020-2021 school year, so competitions were no longer part of the plan, however, they found a way to make it work to have a team, and practice a routine and perform a friends a family show, socially distanced, of course. The following year, 2021-2022 things got a little more normal, and a fantastic team of 9 were formed, to begin their first season as a competitive team. Not being able to attend as many competitions as necessary to qualify to attend the AIA Championship, they competed several times over the winter months, and grew to be a wonderful team! The progress they made in such a short time was inspiring!

2022-2023 the team was finally able to attend enough competitions to be able to enter the AIA Championship! Only haven been a competitive team 1 year, and not all members a part of the previous year's team, there were a lot of new things in store. They competed in North Carolina, as well as Virginia, over the course of a couple of months, in a total of 4 competitions. When attending the AIA North Championship, in Hampton VA, they were seeded 1st in the RA2 class. There were a total of 17 teams in their class, split into 2 competing groups, and our Winter Guard team received the highest scores out of all the teams in their class! This was a huge accomplishment for this team, and the parents, coaches, and community could not be more proud of them.
